LEGISLATIVE ACTION REQUEST FROM MS. BERRY
Ms. Berry received the following email and has asked that it be passed along to each of you for your consideration.
“You are a constituent of Rep. Scott Plakon who serves on the House K-12 Education Committee. It is in that committee that House Bill 461 is filed – which will add bonus points to a school’s grade based on the arts participation.
Please send Rep. Scott Plakon an email or phone call requesting that he or she co-sponsor this bill. The more co-sponsors a bill has in the house – the more easily it will move through the committee process, as well as ultimately pass on the House floor.
House of Representative districts are relatively small – and it is really important that every FMEA member send the request from their personal email address (not the school email) and that you activate your local network of parents and fine arts community supporters to do the same thing.
This is the first step in the legislative process after having the bill filed. The next time you’ll hear from us is when the bill is actually scheduled to be heard by the committee and then we’ll ask that you follow-up with your legislator to see if they did sign on as a co-sponsor. If they did – we’ll be good; if they did not, they will need a phone call asking for their support for this bill.
Your participation in this process is critical – and it is highly important that your representative know that constituents are aware of this bill and want it to pass! “
