Luminaries

The second Lake Brantley Band Booster fund raiser of the year is luminaries.  These candles, lit in small paper bags, arranged to outline a path or walkway have origins in many different cultures and traditions.  They are beautiful in front of an individual house and make a sparkling statement when put out by whole neighborhood or community.

Luminaries are sold much like we sell apples.  We canvas neighborhoods taking orders and then after the band students build the kits, we deliver them right to the customer’s door.  This year we will sell Deluxe Kits (Candles, bags and sand) and Basic Kits (Candles and bags).

Canvassing:  We ask parents to sign up to drive a group of students on a pre-laid out route to sell luminary kits.  The routes are designed to take 2 to 4 hours.  The parents do the driving and in pairs the students go door to door taking orders and collecting money.  Checks are preferred and donations are always welcome.

Direct Sales (home sales):  This year is the first year that we will do this with luminaries.  We will send home order forms and ask you to offer your friends, family and coworkers that do not live in a Lake Brantley High School zoned area to buy Luminaries.  This is a great opportunity to sell Basic Kits (Candles and bags) since they will be smaller and easier to deliver without sand.  We will ask the families that took the orders to deliver the kits.  The kits will be ready for delivery on delivery day.

Delivery:  Orders that were taken during canvassing will be delivered in the same manner that we took the orders, door to door.  Again, we ask parents to sign up to drive a group of students on the same pre-laid out routes to deliver the kits.  You’ll load up a car full of luminaries and set off with four students.  The parent drives the car and the students take the luminaries to the door.  This is easy, because we can leave the boxes if no one is home.

This is an easy fund raiser that is easy to execute and very profitable.  Please watch for more information and help us make Luminaries successful!

Apples

The sale consists of three parts: direct sales, canvassing and delivery. (Click for order form.)

Our Direct Sales Apple Fundraiser will begin at the end of the first week of school.  Students will get their packets mid to late August during band classes.  Directions for this sale are listed in the packet.  All packets should be returned to the band room by October 15, 2010.

Parent volunteers must be registered Dividends in order to participate.  This is an easy process and can be done online from the home page of the Lake Brantley Band web site.  Seminole County website will be accepting application as of the first week of August. Dividend application sign-up is now open on Seminole County website or you may click here to be re-directed to the sign-up page.

This year (2010-2011) our Apple Canvassing will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010.  The morning shift will be from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and the afternoon shift from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  The alternate date for canvassing was scheduled for October 2, 2010 .  We will need over 90 volunteers to drive the students so they could canvass the routes.  Each driver will have approximately four students per car. The apples should arrive at Lake Brantley High School on Tuesday, November 1, 2010.  Students and parent drivers will meet here to pack and deliver the apples according to delivery instructions.  The Canvass Deliver and Direct Sales orders can be picked up November 2, 2010 after 3pm.
